Ladies and Gentlemen!
In order to serve the organization of the Vietnam Urban Conference 2012 "Vietnam Cities Tomorrow – Actions Today", Lai Chau town has participated in delivering a speech with the theme ‘The role and capacity of local government in urban development’ with the following contents:
Lai Chau Town was founded under Decree No. 176/2004/ND-CP dated 10th October 2004 by the Government. After eight years, Lai Chau town is showing the appearance of a young town with socio-economic potential and a fair growth rate, as well as concentrated urban construction planning. Social and technical infrastructure have been gradually built; the face of the town has rapidly changed through urbanization, so the role and capacity of local government in urban development must be a top priority.
Lai Chau town consists of five administrative units containing 3 urban wards and 2 rural
communes, with a population of more than 30,000 people, and a natural area of 7,077 ha. Lai Chau town, being the center of politics and socio-cultural development of the province, is located in the Northwest of Vietnam and part of the national security strategy, and has the role of promoting socio-economic development of the province.
